The laser procedure involves the use of a 980 nm laser, which has a high absorption in both oxyhaemoglobin and water. The special laser fiber is only 600 microns thin. The whole procedure is done under the guidance of a colour Doppler ultrasound machine, which allows visualization of the vein and the problem areas.
