Laser treatment methods for treatment of scars depend on the type of scars. Depressed scars are treated by inducing a controlled injury to the skin leading to new collagen formation, which subsequently fills the scars. The treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids is based on directed heating of the skin structures to induce new collagen formation, alteration in the type of collagen and a more ordered structure of the collagen. Using a combination of lasers, we can also cut off the blood supply to such scars, which could lead to flattening of the scar. |
