LaseRx, Institute of Laser Medicine, is equipped with two different lasers, the Burane XL and the Beautystar, which can be used to treat scars (

Generally, there are two laser modes for treatment. The first is an ablative mode, which is only suitable for depressed scars and very deep wrinkles. This involves peeling off the skin, layer by layer. The attempt is to directly create a controlled injury to the skin, which leads to new collagen formation in the skin. The skin becomes stretched, the wrinkles disappear, and the scars get filled up.
The second is a non-ablative mode, which is suitable for depressed scars, wrinkles, and hypertrophic scars and keloids. In the non-ablative mode, the laser is used to cause direct heating of the skin below the surface, without affecting the surface skin. This also alters the collagen structure, but does so without damaging the superficial layers of the skin, which is important. The non-ablative mode does not demand a long downtime or after care from the patient, which is an important advantage of this type of treatment.
LaseRx is the first center in India to introduce the non-ablative mode for treatment of both depressed and hypertrophic scars, as well as for wrinkles. The lesser downtime and after care required from the non-ablative mode, as well as the possibility to treat hypertrophic scars and keloids makes this the most advanced laser treatment available for skin resurfacing in India.
